This is about revolution, about the dangers of absolute rule, and the power of the collective. Weedon’s messages about the dangers of denying large swathes of people rights ... The excellence in this book comes from the storytelling, and the fully realized characters. Weedon does the best work of all: telling a really good story, and so the messages of the toxicity of patriarchy are crystal clear. I devoured this book, because it was just so easy and fun to read, despite not being a terribly fun novel itself. Highly recommend Autokrator for your summer reading! Link to article
I have not stopped thinking about this book. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it; obsessing over the fate of the characters. Autokrator by Emily Weedon is a sweeping novel of rebellion, joy, and subversion that’s cinematic in scope and has some of the most catatonically electric characters I’ve ever encountered... I enthusiastically recommend this phenomenal book. Also, it needs to be made into a movie. Like, now. Link to review
Tiresius is the novel’s audacious wild card. [a] richly detailed canvas. Link to article
