Did you know that many Canadian Universities host virtual book clubs with thousands of alumni members? Did you know most Canadian fiction is INELIGIBLE for inclusion in these clubs? The clubs insist that to be eligible to be bought and read by members, they must have a Hard cover available, an audio book available and most vexingly, need to have a 4 start rating and over 100 Goodreads reviews. All of this makes sure that the only books considered are Big 5 publishers and that Independent Small PRess Canadian fiction is shut out. Why are Canadian funded Universities working with an American virtual bookclub and excluding Canadian authors from being discovered by Canadian alumni readers through these sprawling programs?
Being read by even one University Bookclub could be life changing for hard working traditionally published Canadian authors and the Independent publishers who struggle to keep Canadian Culture and literature alive.
